Matthew Murphy offers our clients an abundance of trial experience honed over decades before juries in the Superior Court of New Jersey.

After joining the Firm in early 2025, Mr. Murphy concentrates his practice on auto, property and casualty insurance defense matters.  Mr. Murphy began his thirty-year legal career as the first Law Clerk to the Honorable Helen E. Hoens, J.S.C. (Ret), in the Superior Court, Civil Division, in Somerset County.  Thereafter, and for the next twenty-seven years, Mr. Murphy acted as a Senior Assistant Prosecutor and Trial Team Leader in the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office where he tried more than sixty-five jury trials to verdict, directed and cross-examined hundreds of lay and expert witnesses, conducted thousands of criminal investigations, presided over State and County Grand Jury Panels, and appeared on behalf of the State of New Jersey before our Appellate Division, Supreme Court, and United States District Court.  After retiring from the Prosecutor’s Office, Mr. Murphy accepted a position a senior claims specialist with a worldwide insurance carrier and then contract counsel to a Mercer County law firm representing a large institutional client with a significant volume of unique negligence-based lawsuits.  Mr. Murphy’s extensive experience as a criminal trial attorney adds a measure of diversity to our Firm in the event our clients need legal advice or criminal defense representation.

Matthew Murphy received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Law Degree from Western Michigan University’s Thomas M. Cooley School of Law.  Matthew resides in Hunterdon County with his wife Jill and rescue dog Biscuit.
